Unlock a PDF (Remove Password)

Tired of typing the password every time you open a statement, or need to merge, compress or convert a protected PDF? Enter the password once and download a copy that opens without it. Restrictions on printing and copying are removed too.

Why unlock a PDF?

Most PDF tools, including the merger, compressor and converters on this site, can't change an encrypted file. Unlocking it first lets you combine statements for a loan application, convert them to Excel for your accounts, or shrink them for an upload limit. Keep the unlocked copy somewhere private, since anyone who gets it can now open it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can this crack a PDF password I don't know?

No. To remove an open password you need to type it in, exactly as you would to view the file. The tool then saves a copy that no longer asks for it. It does not guess or break passwords.

What is the password for my bank statement or e-Aadhaar?

Banks and government services usually say in the email or on the download page. Common patterns: e-Aadhaar uses the first four letters of your name in capitals plus your birth year (e.g. RAME1990). Many bank statements use part of your name with your date of birth, or your customer ID. Check the instructions from the sender.

My PDF opens fine but won't let me print or copy. Can this help?

Yes. That's a restriction (an 'owner password') rather than an open password. The tool detects it and saves an unrestricted copy without asking for anything. Only do this for documents you're entitled to use that way.

Is my file or password sent anywhere?

No. Decryption happens in your browser. The PDF and the password stay on your device, which is the point when you're dealing with financial and identity documents.

Will the unlocked PDF look different?

No. It's the same document (text, images, links, bookmarks and form fields), just saved without encryption.
